Maureen A. Brisson is presently the Education
Technology Coordinator for the Westport Public School District. A Fall
River resident, Maureen has provided leadership in the field of
educational technology since 1982 when she was the ‘unofficial’
professional development provider for her school. During those early years
she was a pioneer in using and modeling technology in her second-grade
classroom at Fall River Public Schools. Her hard work and modeling
inspired both her principal and her colleagues. The principal invested in
the school’s software, and her colleagues participated in technology
programs beginning with Lesley University’s “Technology in Education”
weekend. Brisson also received a Horace Mann grant to run an after-school
technology club for elementary students, won a national award for
curriculum development using technology, and partnered with her district’s
specialists to incorporate technology across the curriculum.
While employed with Fall River Public
Schools, Maureen developed, presented, and evaluated professional
development activities. She worked with Massachusetts Lighthouse and Model
Professional Development grants, the assistive technology team, Project
MEET, and the district’s curriculum framework committee. One of her
favorite projects that she initiated, though, was the Technology Coach
Program where Brisson trained teachers in thirty elementary schools to
support their colleagues in the use of technology. Over a span of several
years, her Coach program produced a team of confident and knowledgeable
technology facilitators.
In addition to her district work, Maureen is
the technology planner for the Southcoast Regional Reading Council,
teaches at the Southcoast Technology Center, and co-chairs a SIG (Special
Interest Group) for MassCUE. She has presented technology integration
workshops for both her district and MassCUE conferences, and she consults
for Merrimack Technology Center in Somerset. She is also an adjunct
faculty member and teaches graduate courses at Lesley, Framingham, and
UMass Dartmouth. Maureen A. Brisson’s commitment to student and teacher
training in the field of Educational Technology uniquely qualifies her to
receive a MassCUE Year 2003 Pathfinder Award. |
