systems, the Center helps educators and school leaders with practical and
constructive approaches to standards, assessment, and accountability.
He is the author of 16
books, among them the best-selling Making Standards Work, now in
its third edition. Other recent titles include The Leader’s Guide to
Standards (Jossey-Bass, 2002); The Daily Disciplines of Leadership
(Jossey-Bass, 2002); the Twenty Minute Learning Connection (Simon &

creation of a constructive and meaningful accountability system. Doug’s
books have twice been selected for the Harvard Distinguished Author’s
Series and his writing for parents and children won the Parent’s Choice
award for 2002. A frequent keynoter at national and international
conferences, Doug was long known as the “testdoctor” of the Internet and
is one of the nation’s leading authorities on student achievement and
educational leadership.
Beyond his work in
large-scale assessment and research, Doug has devoted many years to
classroom teaching with students ranging from elementary school to
doctoral candidates. He lives near Boston with his wife, Shelley Sackett,
an attorney and mediator, and their four children.
