Algot
Runeman is the District Technology Coordinator for the King Philip
Regional School District. A Natick resident, Algot has provided leadership
in the field of educational technology for more than twenty-five years
when he first developed an interest in applying technology to his work as
a science teacher at King Philip Regional Junior High School. As he became
more proficient with the design and implementation of curriculum that
utilized technology, he shared his knowledge and enthusiasm with his
colleagues. His passion to share things that “work well” in educational
technology with his fellow educators, has brought him great respect from
his peers.
In 1984 while
employed with the King Philip Regional School District, Algot’s position
changed from science teacher to computer teacher. This was the same year
he volunteered to work for MassCUE, and he worked tirelessly to find high
quality, educational programs versus “drill & kill” software. It was this
initiative that led him to develop the MassCUE “Shareware/Freeware
Library.” This collection of high quality, free programs was cataloged and
disseminated to educators across the Commonwealth through the MassCUE SIG
(Special Interest Group) network.
In addition to the Shareware/Freeware Library,
Algot developed the MassCUE Calendar, served on the SIG Oversight
Committee, the Retreat Committee, the Conference Committee, and the Kids
in Technology Committee. He also served as MassCUE’s secretary from
1984 to present. In the ’80s he was active in the South Central SIG,
and in the ’90s he took a leadership role in the South East Coordinator’s
SIG. He remains a valued member of the Southeastern Massachusetts SIG
(SEMSIG). Beyond his work with his district and with MassCUE, Algot began
attending early meetings of the Boston Computer Society, and he is a
longstanding member of ISTE. Algot Runeman’s commitment to student and
teacher training in the field of Educational Technology uniquely qualifies
him to receive a MassCUE Year 2003 Pathfinder Award. |
